Training - Week 2 Day 4

A. Strict Press + Push Press; 3 + 5; rest 2:30 x 5 sets *Same weight as last week*

Did at 90lb. Right shoulder had issues at the start - clearly lagging on the strict presses, discomfort in the delt - but got better with each set. Happy to finish this solidly. [Angelo - see email for more info on my shoulder situation.]

B. 5 sets:
1) Weighted pull ups; 3-5 reps; rest 30s
2) Clapping push ups; 8-10 reps; rest 30s
3) Strict CTB Pull ups; amrap in 15s; rest 2 minutes x 5 sets

Results: 1) 4 reps for all 5 sets; 2) 10 reps for all 5 sets (these were a little touchy on the shoulder but, as with above, got better through the sets; 3) 7-7-6-6-5 - that last set was tough.

C. Amrap KB PP 44-55lbs; 20s; rest 60s btw arms x 4 sets

Did this at 53lbs last week, went down to 44lb this week. By the time I got to this, the shoulder was increasingly achy in general. Warming up, I could tell these would be a challenge on the right side and I just did not feel like I could stabilize the 53lb KB sufficiently.

Results: LEFT = 15 reps all rounds; RIGHT = 14-15-14-13-13

D. 18 Minute Alternating EMOM
1st: 1-3 strict HSPU + 2-4 Burpee pull ups
2nd: 1-3 bar muscle ups + 20s Row @ 2k pace

DID NOT DO. HSPUs were definitely not happening; even a controlled lower caused discomfort and some pain. Tried a couple of muscle ups - pressing out even a small dip was painful.

OVERALL: Meh. Two steps forward, one step back. Hip is improving - despite the issues with the split squats on Tues, it has generally felt better overall since then - so of course something else has to act up. I don't know what's triggered this shoulder thing...maybe the new-to-me exercises got things a little out of whack? The movements and positions that cause the issues are most similar to the Cuban press - elbows out away from the body, rotating in a bent position. I don't recall anything happening while doing them but they have been challenging. Blah.

  1. Sounds like it could be rotator cuff. We emailed about it a bit but we need to lay off it till that gets better.
